How to Greenify Your Finances
Going green is a growing concern for people all over the world, which is a fantastic development. For far too long our societies have been carelessly destructive and ignorant with regards to the environment, and the effects can be seen and felt everywhere from the tops of the mountains to the bottom of the sea. We're all doing our best now to atone for the damage done and build a more sustainable future for the next generation. You now have the power to contribute your own efforts to the cause by making your finances more green.
Start by going paperless. Customers and business women alike have taken to paperless systems for everything from phone and internet bills to bank statements. Start promoting paperless options in your business. Not only does this save vast amounts of paper, thereby reducing the destruction of our forests, it can also save you a lot of money. Think about all the envelopes and paper bills that not only cost you money, but often end up in landfills. Paperless billing systems are faster and more reliable than traditional mailing methods, and they are easier to operate and maintain. The end result is savings for your business and far less waste and pollution.
Aside from offering paperless options to your customers, you can become the paperless customer when you go to your bank. Switch to online or mobile banking for your business finances. You can access your accounts easily from your computer or phone, and even transfer funds paperlessly with the click of a button. Many banks have their own smart phone apps that allow you to do this instantly. The need for paper statements, trips to the bank, and endless filling out of wasteful deposit slips is no more. Take your banking into the virtual world to make it easier and more environmentally friendly.
Think about the way you use credit cards, and the way your business uses them. Credit cards themselves are relatively environmentally neutral, neither helping not harming very much, but the companies behind them can be very different. You may not have a say in whether your business will accept credit cards from any particular banks or companies, but you can research the companies themselves and use them for your personal and business credit cards. Before you start a new line of credit, research the company behind the card. Give careful consideration to their environmental polices, and decide where you want to take your business.
Last, but certainly not least--think about investing. Most Americans have long understood that your dollar is your voice. At the heart of everything, our economy is ruled by the consumers and the investors, not the companies and corporations. The way you spend sends ripples through the economy, and the way you invest can be your greatest power in projecting your voice. Invest in environmentally progressive companies and energy providers to be active in making your finances more green. Not only are you supporting a good cause, you're making a smart investment as well.
