Top 5 Reasons to Encourage Employees to Be Fit and Healthy

Every single staff member that you have at your office is important. Just think about it: Without them, where would you and your company be? They are definitely the ones who, in many ways, are the backbone of the business and so you definitely want them to be as healthy, happy and excited about working for your company as possible.

This is the main reason why it's so important to encourage your employees to be fit and healthy. Oh, but there are a few others:

It keeps them from getting sick. When people are sick, it definitely causes more stress in the workplace because that's one less person on the job to get the job done. But, even if someone is so under the weather that they do get to stay home from work, they aren't really getting to enjoy it because they don't feel good. When people are encouraged to exercise, eat right and get plenty of rest, it makes the quality of the work and their lives better.

It gives them more energy. An eight-hour work day can sometimes seem long no matter how great you feel. Oh, but if you are tired and sluggish, being at the office can feel like forever. When someone works out for 30-minutes before coming into work, it can give them a boost of energy that will easily (and naturally) take them past the lunchtime hours. It doesn't hurt to mention it.

It can educate them. Just by doing things like offering personal training courses, discounts to gyms and fitness centers and organic cooking classes, it teaches your staff ways to incorporate healthy living in a way that has a "domino effect". This is because what they learn at work (or because of work) about healthy living, they can carry home to their loved ones. Before you know it, now the spouses are working out together and the kids are cooking healthy meals alongside their parents.

It boosts their confidence. There are many studies that support the fact that when you feel good about yourself on the outside, you tend to feel good on the inside too. When that happens, there is a level of self-confidence that causes you to care more about your appearance and also your job performance. If you have some people who work for you who are out of shape or overweight, you can help to make them be more productive by encouraging them (perhaps even with incentives) to live a healthier life.

It's simply the right thing to do. You may not be "best friends" with your staff, but anyone that you find yourself spending most of your waking hours with, that is definitely someone who you should enjoy being around as they enjoy being around you. And, as a camaraderie develops and you find yourself genuinely caring about the person's well-being, of course you'd want to do all that you can to make sure that they are healthy for as long as possible. When you promote healthy living, it's for a lifetime---both in the office and out.
