Recycle your Mobile Phone

Mobiles2Recycle

For the new year, my husband and I cancelled service on two of our cell phones and instead consolidated service through AT&T with a new iPhone. Now what do we do with the cancelled cell phones? I now have two separate phones that are no longer useful to me but still may be used, or recycled for parts.

I also have a cell phone from 4 years ago that's just sitting in a drawer.

Here's a new resource to the rescue for mobile phone recycling.

There are over a hundred million cell phones that are replaced every single year -- and many tens of thousands of these end up in landfills, where they can leach dangerous ingredients into the earth and water supply. By recycling your mobile phone, you helps the environment keep clear of the harmful chemicals contained in each device.

You can recycle your mobile phone by visiting Mobiles2Recycle, which SellmyMobile, a UK-based company, purchased in 2010. You can get cash for your phone by comparing prices for your mobile phone.

Here's how it works:

1. Search - Look for your mobile phone handset by searching for it using the search facility which can be located at the top of the website

mobiles2Recycle2. Mobiles2Recycle are a comparison site -- they can give you the best prices possible. Review the search outcomes and make a decision which deal you would like to choose. Some recyclers offer vouchers as a method of payment and these are often set at a higher price than the cash equivalent. Once you are content, click 'Sell Now' to choose the recycler

3. Post Your Mobile For FREE - The recycler you have selected will provide some instructions to the e-mail you gave in signing up. These will comprise of how you want payment and details on how and where to send your mobile

4. Receive Your Cash! One you have posted the mobile phone out, and the recycler has checked it over, they will send out your payment within a few days so keep an eye on the letter box or your bank account (depending on what payment method you chose in Step 2)

Here are a list of manufacturer brand names: if your cell phone is one of these, check out the site

Acer, Alcatel, Amoi, Apple, Asus, ASUSTeK, Benefon, Benq Siemens, BlackBerry, Bluechip, Canon, Danger, Dell, Eten, Foxconn, Gigabyte, HP, HTC, Huawei, i-mate, INQ, LG, Microsoft, Mitac, Mitsubishi, Modelabs, Motorola, NEC, Neonode, Nikon, Nintendo, Nokia, O2, Orange, Palm, Panasonic, Pantech, Philips, Qtek, Sagem, Samsung, Sendo, Sharp, Sonim, Sony Ericsson, Spv, T-Mobile, Telit, Toshiba, Vertu, Virgin Mobile, VK Mobile, Vodafone, ZTE.

The service is free to use and easy to go through. Keep your cell phone e-waste out of our landfills and recycle your cell phone here.
