One consistent way to improve your leadership is to find symbolic meaning in areas of your life where you might not be looking. Take something that’s happening to you, make an abstract summary of it, and see where else the metaphor applies in your life.


Finding Contentment Wherever you Are

So many times we strive to think ahead, or to rehash the past. What about the present? What about the here and now?

The present, as I'm sure you know, is a gift and something to be truly grateful for. Every single moment of every day is a gift, and if we cultivate the mindset and habits of abundance thinking, we realize that we can find contentment wherever we currently are.

 

Don't worry so much, or focus too much on what's going to happen in the future. The future is built off your present moments, one after another --- your whole life is built of your repeated thought patterns, actions, and choices in the now.

Practice saying to yourself: I am content in any situation.

I can be content in spring, summer, fall, and winter.

I am content in rain and in shine.

I am content in wealth and in poverty.

I am content in a relationship and outside of a relationship.

I am content by myself. I am content with others.

I am content rising for my daily work. I am content taking breaks. I am content with my meal. I am content getting ready for bed. I am content as a I fall asleep.

 

When we express and truly feel contentment in any situation, we are freed up from the constant striving that can cause stress, unhappiness, and anxiety.

I do believe that goal-setting is necessary, and that we can choose to work directly towards a set of goals, but that comes with discrete, miniscule steps in the here and now towards gratitude, a belief in abundance, and true equanimity.

 

Take some deep breaths, stretch it out, and say it till it becomes part of your mental makeup: I find contentment in every situation.
